The Incredible Years is a set of linked programs for caregivers, teachers, and children aged 0-13. The programs aim to:

  • Improve child-parent relationships

  • Decrease problem behaviors

  • Increase home-school communication

  • Build supportive family networks

  • Help caregivers teach children social skills

  • Help caregivers teach children emotional regulation

The interventions also teach caregivers/educators to:

  • Promote children's social, emotional, and academic competence

  • Prevent, reduce, and treat aggression and emotional problems

  • Strengthen adult competencies

  • Foster caregiver-school communication

According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), two randomized controlled trials (RCTs) found the intervention to be effective in reducing problem behaviors and increasing social behaviors/teaching practices for students in preschool or early elementary school.
