Responsive Classroom is an integrated approach to elementary education (K-6) that emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth in a strong and safe school community. The goal is to create classroom environments that enable optimal student learning and emotional safety for all students.

According to Responsive Classroom, to be successful academically and socially, children need skills in cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy and self-control.

According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), quasi-experimental evaluation found improved academic performance and social behaviors in students.
